dude has done 4 paint jobs and doesn’t seem to have done enough research to paint a hot wheels.
-uses a tiny compressor and complains about the gun
-mixes all paint before even testing gun
-instead of shaping ugly spoiler to fit car and using a sealer after paint caulks it onto car with white house caulking.

this guy makes so many mistakes I just don’t get it.
Is he drunk constantly?

Looking at it objectively, B is for Build isn’t great; there's plenty of other stupid mistakes even I could see are the wrong thing to do, but as entertainment, it’s a pretty refreshing change from most car content on YouTube (it has decent production value, likeable personalities etc.) he has said he’s learning as he goes along, and the builds are pretty interesting, and the dude uploads pretty regularly too.

Tbh though, yeah, he might be drunk/high on paint fumes in some of these videos, I dunno

I’m no expert but going from bottom to top on panels doesn’t seem like the brightest idea either.

there are many ways of attacking a car. Im no expert either but you want to paint from wet moving the wet paint you just sprayed in as even as possible around the car.

you definitely don’t want to paint each panel separate like paint the whole quarter panel then then paint the door and then the fender. you want it all to match and look the same.

I think he uses “learning as I go” as an excuse many times. The good thing is he points out his mistakes but it just seems like he doesn’t really respect how hard a paint job is to do right, all the things that could go wrong, or research much beforehand he ends up making really serious but obvious mistakes.

I don’t mean to bash his “can do” attitude or that he is painting in a garage but just some of the errors he makes I just wonder how much thought he puts into stuff.

What he wasted on paint he could have bought a bigger compressor, and BTW just hearing him talking about compressor sizes and stuff its like he doesn’t even understand what CFM means.

But I do like watching his videos they are entertainment.

I think this pretty much sums up my thoughts on the guy; his attitude and heart are in the right place, but he could do with a bit more research, and after the second failed paint job, I would have called it quits and paid a shop to sort it. As entertainment goes though, his videos are pretty good

His approach makes no sense to me either. I went through the same ‘learn as I go’ process of painting my car in the garage. Instead, I bought a well-reviewed professional gun (Iwata for $200 on Craigslist) and a $500 60 gal compressor from Lowes. I can promise you he’s spent more on materials repainting the car 4 times than I spent on tools.

I spent a good half day or so researching technique, gun settings, etc. and went for it. It wasn’t perfect, but with some buffing it came out great. Much better than any sub 3k paint job would have been from a shop.

Also, don’t get me started on how he ‘repaired’ that car.

he seriously has a compressor like a few steps above one for an airbrush he didn’t seem to connect the fact of ruining a filter with so much water with a tiny compressor capacity. I had to laugh when after two short trigger pulls of the paint gun the compressor kicked on!

I think the gun he bought would work well if he has enough volume and ability to tune it right I wonder what the sherwinn willams guys thought of him trying to paint with a 5 gallon compressor.

The probably told him no way it would work. That’s the answer I got everywhere when trying to start out with a 30 gallon oilless. Man, he just needs to invest a tiny bit in decent equipment and he would be so much less frustrated.

well perhaps worst of all, his video editing sucks. all talk, no real info. I skipped all around, who could possibly bear 20+ minutes of this

I guess me. I want to see the progress on his one car he is suppossedly replacing the quarter panel on. I like that sort of thing, but as can be seen in this video the car still does not have its quarter panel.

I really dont know why I keep watching desperation maybe but I certainly never learn anything from the videos.

this is sooo frustrating. How did he not do any of this research before he tried it the first time????

I don’t know. Maybe he doesn’t know the he could buy a autobody repair textbook with things in minute detail for like $30 on amazon. Or watch the tons of videos on youtube.

My theory is I want to do it right the first time and not waste money on paint. Cuz its expensive and sanding and repainting sucks!

yeah, the waste of money is what really gets me. Some people have more money than brains.
